Blachut, Beno, Czech tenor; b. Wittkowitz, June 14, 1913; d. Prague, Jan. 10, 1985. He was a pupil of Luis Kadeřábek at the Prague Cons. (1935–39). In 1938 he made his operatic debut as Jeník in The Bartered Bride in Olomouc, where he sang until 1941; then was a leading member of the Prague National Theater; also sang in concerts. He was particularly esteemed for his portrayals of roles in operas by Smetana, Dvořák, and Janáček.
