Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most commonly occurring form of progressive neuromuscular disease. Although life expectancy and quality of life for boys with DMD has improved significantly over the past few decades, a cure remains elusive. Recently, with the identification of the gene that carries the abnormality causing the disorder, there is realistic hope in the foreseeable future for even more effective treatments.
