The federal jury in Madison convicted 16 major oil companies and 30 oil company executives of violating the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The trial led the Wisconsin Legislature in 1939 to adopt the Unfair Sales Act that requires a minimum markup in gasoline prices. It was aimed at predatory pricing by oil companies.

The issue is expected to resurface this year in the State Capitol, where Sen. Dave Zien, R-Wheaton, is preparing legislation for a one-year suspension of the 65-year-old law. A coalition including Wal-Mart, Murphy Oil, AAA of Wisconsin, UPS and some trucking companies ...
