Mark Duffy's book is the first survey of the royal tombs of medieval England since J. Charles Wall's Tombs of the Kings of England (1891), a book which is surprisingly missing from his bibliography. Duffy's declared aim is the examination of "a wide group of senior monuments ... and to ask how they related to the deceased as individuals."
