Danish farm numbers fall again.(DENMARK)(farms and horticultural units)(Brief Article)

The number of Danish farms and horticultural units fell by 6% to 45 624 in 2004, after reductions of 3.8% in 2003 and 5.5% in 2002. However, unlike 2003, farms with over 100 hectares increased by 2%, reflecting the trend towards fewer and larger farms Danmarks Statistik reports. Farm numbers have halved over the last 20 years.

The average farm size increased by 3ha last year, to 58ha. As in 2003, the fall in numbers was mainly due to farms under 40ha being bought up or rented by larger farms.
