Jul. 7--Thirty years ago, George Gorman Jr. was a teenager looking for a summer job. He found one at Jones Beach State Park. "My first assignment was at the Jones Beach Theater," he recalled. "It was scraping gum off the seats, cleaning the seating area. I didn't expect it to be a lifetime career." But it became just that, and now Gorman has a new assignment: overseeing 32 sites as regional director of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
