Jul. 16--ONTARIO, CANADA -- William Shakespeare, house playwright of the Stratford Festival in Stratford, has more range and stature than George Bernard Shaw, house playwright of the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Yet each Canadian festival -- separated the other by a drive of only a bit more than two hours -- is worth a visit.

Many visitors spend a few days in each picturesque town for a memorable week of theatergoing, dining, shopping and sightseeing.
