How can there be so much beauty among such extreme poverty? This question kept coming to mind as we traveled through the mountains of Honduras. We saw dilapidated homes, children playing in dumpsters, picking their way through debris to find a meal, and the dry land. There was garbage everywhere and yet, the trees flowered in full bloom; the tropical plants were lush; and the mountains loomed invitingly, scraping a clear blue sky.
