Motorists travelling between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth have been encouraged to use the N1 to Beaufort West, the R61 to Graaff Reinet and then the R75 to the coast.
This follows heavy rains in the Southern Cape.
The Eden District Municipality said yesterday that one lane remained closed on a section of the N2 at Kaaimans River, between George and Wilderness.
"A 900-metre section is restricted to one lane, with stop and go access," the municipality said in a statement.
