Sep. 29--Responding to a state-imposed Oct. 15 deadline, city leaders agreed to allocate $100,000 from the general fund to clean up an old landfill contaminating a local creek. The money will be used immediately to hire a contractor to stabilize the north and south banks of Markley Creek to prevent refuse from falling into the water, officials said. The work should take about two weeks, once the state approves the contractor's plans for the site.
