John E. Lang of Lowell, a Navy veteran of World War II and well-known track coach, died at his home Sunday. He was 84.

Born in Lowell, Mr. Lang was a lifelong resident.

He attended and graduated from Lowell public schools and Lowell High School. While at Lowell High School, he was a member of the track and cross country teams; he was a standout middle distance runner.

He then attended St. John's Prep, where he was a member of the two-mile relay team that captured the national title at the National Catholic Preparatory School Championships in 1941. He then attended Holy ...
