Edgar Meyer, unjacketed, red braces, the sleeves of his white shirt rolled up to the elbows, trudged onto the stage of Overture Hall Friday night carrying his customized 7-foot-tall double bass in his right hand, ready to do musical battle.

Composer and double-bass virtuoso Meyer joined the Madison Symphony Orchestra for an eclectic and thoroughly enjoyable journey through Romantic, Classical and Modern musical styles.
