Surprisingly good

SIMON BOCCANEGRA UCL BLOOMSBURY THEATRE WC1 I have always found going to opera trying, and a bit of a chore. Imagine my trepidation when my wife suggested we go to see Simon Boccanegra.

I thought "Oh no! Not another stuffy night!"

My, my - I was completely wrong. I was riveted by the drama onstage. It wasn't showy and the chorus could've been larger, but the story was exciting and dramatic. The main character, Simon Boccanegra, was elegant and emotional. The part of Adorno was sung dramatically by a tenor who reminded me of a young Pavarotti. The ...
