CESAREWITCH winner Detroit City destroyed a good field for the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham yesterday, forcing himself to favouritism for the Champion Hurdle.

The strapping grey (as low as 7-2 with Hills) is the first serious British-trained challenger for the title since his ill-fated stable companion Rooster Booster, also a winner of the Greatwood Hurdle, became champion in 2003.

Since then Irish horses have totally dominated the race.
