Inspiration for Machiko Munakata's ceramic artwork might come from clothing.

"I'll go shopping and see some item that catches my attention," she said. "The color combinations or what makes it work. Then I remember what works in my mind and what looks appropriate."

But you won't see abstract art like this on many T-shirts.

Munakata, who lives in Gurnee, will have work at the 13th annual SOFA, Sculpture Objects and Functional Art, Nov. 10-12 at Navy Pier in Chicago.
