FoR many people, the image of Thailand consists of the beaches of Phuket or the bustling capital of Bangkok.

But the country has much more to offer.

One of the more delightful areas is the northern city (and province) of Chiang Mai. An hour's flight from Bangkok, this welcoming place is frequented by Bangkok residents themselves, many of whom own holiday homes here.

Travellers to Thailand are taken by the gentle, gracious ways of the country and this is even more apparent among the people of Chiang Mai.
