In James Michener's 1978 novel, "Chesapeake," he describes a blue heron gulping down a soft-shell blue crab and declares it "the choicest morsel in the bay." This season in Hampton Roads, the "choicest morsel's" shedding process began during the first full moon of April, and according to local fish lore and a lot of witchcraft, the season can last until the final full moon of August.
