Though much ballyhooed by the Christian Right, this book falls far short of its stated purpose: to present the "case against naturalism." Neither scientist nor philosopher, lawyer Phillip Johnson believes "metaphysical naturalism . . . is the metaphysical position that underlies not only contemporary science but the humanities and the so-called social sciences as well" (p. 16). He recognizes that Christian theism must be defended rationally; for, he says, ". . .
