BERNIE ECCLESTONE put Silverstone to the sword yesterday and ended 58 years of history with the flick of his pen.

The billionaire businessman carried out his threat to axe the circuit from the world championship as he signed a contract on Thursday night that will take the British Grand Prix to Donington from 2010.

There were few tears among the hierarchy of Formula One teams as the continual bickering ended and they could welcome a new 10-year deal which should secure the event's future until 2020.
