Montjoie
Montjoie in medieval French tradition, Charlemagne's ensign and war cry, representing Mons Gaudi from which Jerusalem was seen by pilgrims. Montjoie is the cry of Charlemagne's forces in the Song of Roland, and Montjoie St Denis (which appears in the old royal arms of France) was the national war-cry of the French.
The term was also used for the crosses erected to mark stations on the route between Aigues Mort and Paris, along which the body of Louis IX (St Louis) was taken, following his death in 1270.
