Expanding wind power in Oklahoma still faces barriers

Although wind power production is expected to double in Oklahoma in the next year, its expansion still faces significant barriers, officials said Tuesday.

Furthermore, the expansion of wind power could displace coal- fired generation in limited circumstances and actually increase the cost of electric power.

Officials with the Oklahoma Wind Power Assessment Committee, who are examining proposals to increase the use of alternative power sources in Oklahoma, examined wind power's potential as part of their Tuesday meeting.
