For more than 30 years the artist Sol LeWitt has remained obsessively loyal to the most basic ingredient of art: the line. Even in early drawings based on masterpieces of Western painting by Piero della Francesca and Botticelli, you can see him eliminating bulk and shading, reducing, say, "The Primavera" to wiry line.
