Shang (Yin) Early Chinese dynasty (c.1523–c.1030 bc). Successors to the Hsia (Xia) dynasty, the Shang was based in the valley of the Huang He (Yellow) River. During the Shang period, the Chinese written language was perfected, techniques of flood control and irrigation were practised, and artefacts were made in cast bronze.

Shang a dynasty which ruled China during part of the 2nd millennium bc, probably the 16th–11th centuries. The period encompassed the invention of Chinese ideographic script and the discovery and development of bronze casting.
