Durham, John George Lambton, 1st Earl of
Durham, John George Lambton, 1st Earl of (1792–1840) British statesman. One of the drafters of the Great Reform Act of 1832, he led the radical wing of the Whig Party. As governor general of Canada (1838), he produced a report which became the basis of British colonial policy.
