megaspore
megaspore The larger of two kinds of spore produced by heterosporous ferns, or the first cell of the female gametophyte generation of such ferns and seed plants (angiosperms and gymnosperms). In angiosperms, it is one of 4 haploid cells formed from a megasporocyte during meiosis, the other 3 degenerating. The megaspore of angiosperms divides to produce the female gametophyte (embryo sac).
