Marcovici, Silvia (b Bacau, Romania, 1952). Romanian-born violinist. Soloist with Hague Residentie Orch. in 1967. In 1969 won Thibaud-Long comp. in Paris, Enescu comp., Bucharest 1970. London début 1970 (LSO). Chosen by Stokowski as soloist at his 90th birthday concert in 1971. Emigrated to Israel in 1976, settling later in Ger.

Marcovici, Silvia

Marcovici, Silvia, Romanian violinist; b. Bacau, Jan. 30,1952. She studied in Bacau and at the Bucharest Cons., her principal teacher being S. Gheorghiu. She made her professional debut in The Hague in 1967. In 1969 she won the Long-Thibaud Competition in Paris and in 1970 the Enesco Competition in Bucharest. She appeared for the first time in London in 1970, in 1977 she performed in N.Y., and she subsequently appeared with many of the world’s majororchs.
