Du Bartas, Guillaume de Salluste

Guillaume de Salluste Du Bartas (gēyōm´ də sälüst´ dü bärtäs´), 1544–90, French poet. A Huguenot soldier under Henry IV, Du Bartas is known chiefly for his epic poems La Sepmaine; ou, Creation du monde (1578) and the unfinished La Seconde Sepmaine (1584). In lofty verse they retell the main events of the Bible from a Protestant viewpoint.
