Gagern, Heinrich, Freiherr von
Heinrich Gagern, Freiherr von (hīn´rĬkh frī´hĕr fən gä´gərn), 1799–1880, German statesman. A Hessian parliamentary leader and leading advocate of German unity, he became (1848) president of the Frankfurt Parliament. He at first favored Prussian leadership and the exclusion of Austria from German affairs but later reversed his stand.
