Antonin Nompar de Caumont Lauzun, duc de (äNtōnăN´ nôNpär´ də kōmôN´ dük də lōzöN´), 1633–1723, French courtier and soldier. Mlle de Montpensier sought him in marriage; the king consented to the match but forbade it three days later (1670). Shortly afterward (1671) Lauzun was imprisoned and was not freed until 1681. After his release he and Mlle de Montpensier were probably married, but they quarreled and separated in 1684. Lauzun brought the family of King James II of England to safety in France after the Glorious Revolution of 1688. In 1689–90 he commanded the unsuccessful Irish expedition to restore James. He was created duke in 1692.
