Diptychs (Gk., diptychon, ‘two-leaved folder’). The lists of names, contained originally on two-winged tablets of ivory or bone or metal, of living and dead Christians for whom special prayer is made in the liturgy of both E. and W. churches. In art, the term also applies to an altar-piece with two folding side-wings.
