Indy a form of motor racing in which cars are driven round a banked, regular oval circuit which allows for racing at exceptionally high speeds. It takes place chiefly in the US, and is named (from the 1950s) from Indianapolis in Indiana, where the principal Indy event, an annual 500-mile (804.5-km) motor race, known as the Indy 500, is held.
