Gisela of Swabia (d. 1043)
Holy Roman empress. Name variations: Gisele of Schwaben. Born around 1000; died in 1043; married Brunon II, margrave of Saxony; married Conrad II the Salian (990–1039), Holy Roman emperor (r. 1024–1039), in 1016; children: (first marriage) Ludolphe, margrave of Saxony; (second marriage) possibly Emelia (who married Odo II, count of Blois); Henry III (1017–1056), Holy Roman emperor (r. 1039–1056).
Conrad II the Salian began his reign as Holy Roman emperor in 1024. In 1027, he and Gisela of Swabia were crowned in Rome, and they would continue to reign until 1039.
