Marquesa of Ferrara. Name variations: Margherita d'Este. Born in 1418; died in 1439; daughter of Paola Gonzaga (1393–1453) and Gianfrancesco Gonzaga (1395–1444), 5th captain general of Mantua (r. 1407–1433), 1st marquis of Mantua (r. 1433–1444); married Leonello d'Este (1407–1450), 13th marquis of Ferrara; children: Niccolo d'Este (1438–1476). Leonello's second wife was Maria of Aragon , marquesa of Ferrara.
