Hobhouse, Violet (1864–1902)
Irish nationalist. Born Violet McNeill in County Antrim, Ireland (now Northern Ireland), in 1864; died in 1902.
A Unionist, Violet Hobhouse toured England speaking out against Home Rule. She was also keen on Irish folklore and culture and was fluent in Irish. Her books included An Unknown Quantity (1898) and Warp and Weft (1899).
