Sadeler, Agnes (fl. 1386)

Rebellious English serf. Name variations: Sadler. Flourished around 1386 in Ramsley (Romley), England.

Little is known about Agnes Sadeler, a rebellious English serf. She is listed in court records of 1386 as being the leader of the villagers of Ramsley when they rose against their feudal lord. Sadeler was accused of gathering the rebels together, and of rallying the villagers when they refused to work for their overlord, demanding that they be freed from their bondage to him. For this, she was declared an outlaw by the courts.
