If you’ve ever watched a political thriller film, you may have seen the depiction of an assassin who works for the government. While Hollywood makes this character and job look glamorous by associating the character with flashy cars, sophisticated weaponry and backgrounds that include beautiful places around the world, the realistic role of an assassin who works for the government is quite different.
The Role Of A Government Assassin
In reality, there are probably only a few real assassins that work for government agencies. In most cases, government operatives who are assigned with the task of eliminating specific “high-value” individuals will be trained to perform many different types of activities.
In most cases, these individuals have a military background and are associated with one of the branches of the military. Typically this will include the Navy, Army and Marines. These individuals are trained to kill in the early stages of basic training. After serving their country for a period of time, they may be recruited or choose to join a branch of the special forces division that’s associated with their branch of the military.
Very few of these “assassins” resemble the characters known as Jason Bourne or James Bond. Most of these operatives have specialized skills that focus on gathering intelligence data and using it to spy on the enemy. It is much more useful to collect and synthesize data than it is to eliminate individuals who provide a gateway to enemy secrets.
Raised Profile Of Assassins
Hollywood has definitely raised the interest in becoming an assassin for the government. While their portrayal may be designed to fill seats in the theaters, it has peaked an interest in the millennial generation. If you are interested in becoming an assassin, one of the best ways to do this is by joining a branch of the military. One of the most recognized positions includes snipers who serve in the Marines or the Army. Navy SEALs are also involved in missions that require training in close combat techniques.
Secret Agent Assassins
The Jason Bourne and James Bond type of assassins portrayed by Hollywood are based off of members of the secret intelligence services. These might include people who have high-level security clearances in the CIA are MI6, which are the intelligence agencies of the United States and the United Kingdom. Obviously, the operations of these agencies are not made known to the public.
Individuals who are involved with these agencies may be familiar with explosives, poisons and unconventional methods that allow them to interrogate the enemy. They may also have expertise in martial arts or with different types of weaponry. Activities for these groups are typically not recorded or discussed.
Becoming A Government Operative
If you are serious about beginning a path that is related to assassin type activities, your best bet is to join one of the Armed Forces branches that deal with sniper training. After a while, you can see if you qualify for a sniper position. This is probably the easiest way to become an assassin for the government.
