Getting A Green Dot Card
There are two ways to get a Green Dot card; buying a temporary card at a participating retailer, or buying a card online. When you buy your card online, you register it at the same time. You can use the account number you have been given to buy products online or over the phone, but you must wait approximately two weeks to get your permanent card in the mail.
When you buy a temporary Green Dot card from a retailer, you can load the card with money and begin using it. But your ability to use your card is limited until you take the time to register it.
Registering Is Easy
To register your Green Dot card you need to go to the Green Dot website (GreenDot.com) and click on the “Register Card” box in the top right-hand corner of the page. If you do not have a Green Dot card yet, then you can buy and register one on the website.
Fill In Your Number
Once you click on the “Register Card” box, you will be taken to a secure screen that will ask you to input your card number. The first field asks for your 16-digit card number, and the second field asks for the expiration date at the bottom of the card. The box that asks for your CVV number is referring to the three-digit number on the back of your card near the signature box. Whenever a retailer asks for your card’s security number, they are referring to the CVV number.
Finish The Process
After you input your numbers, the website will prompt you to finish the registration. After your card is registered, you will receive a permanent card in the mail. With that permanent card, you can load money onto it whenever you want and use that card anywhere that takes Visa.
