Béroff, Michel, French pianist; b.Épinal, May 9, 1950. After training at the Nancy Cons, (premier prix, 1962; prix d’excellence, 1963), he completed his studies with Loriod at the Paris Cons, (premier prix, 1966). In 1967 he made his Paris debut and won first prize in the Messiaen competition in Rouen; thereafter he toured internationally, appearing as a soloist with major orchs. and as a recitalist. While his large repertory embraces works from Mozart to the contemporary period, he has won particular notice for his performances of scores by Debussy, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Bartók, and Messiaen.
