Degeyter, Pierre
Degeyter, Pierre , French wood-carver and author of the famous workers’ song Internationale (1888); b. Ghent, Oct. 8, 1848; d. St. Denis, near Paris, Sept. 27, 1932. The authorship of the song was contested by Pierre’s brother, Adolphe, a blacksmith (b. 1858; d. Lille, Feb. 15, 1917), but after 18 years of litigation, the Paris Appellate Court decided in favor of Pierre.
