Erb, Karl (b Ravensburg, 1877; d Ravensburg, 1958). Ger. tenor. Début with Stuttgart Opera 1907 ( Kienzl's Der Evangelimann); Lübeck Opera 1908–10; Munich opera 1913–25, where he created title-role in Pfitzner's Palestrina 1917. Salzburg Fest. 1925; CG 1927. Retired from stage 1930 (last role was Florestan in Fidelio). Noted exponent of Evangelist in Bach's St Matthew Passion. His wife was the sop. Maria Ivogün.
