Genzmer, Harald
Genzmer, Harald, German composer and pedagogue; b. Blumenthal, Feb. 9, 1909. After piano and organ lessons in Marburg, he studied with Hindemith at the Berlin Hochschule fur Musik. He taught at the Berlin Volksmusikschule (1938–45), and then was a prof. Of composition at the Freiburg im Breisgau Hochschule für Musik (1946–57) and the Munich Hochschule für Musik (1957–74). Hindemith proved a major influence on his music, which is especially notable for its display of skillful craftsmanship in a utilitarian manner.
