Leech, Richard
Leech, Richard, American tenor; b. Binghamton, Calif., 1956. During his student years, he made appearances as a baritone and then as a tenor. His professional career began in earnest in 1980. In subsequent years, he sang in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Houston, and Chicago. In 1987 he made his European debut as Raoul in Les Huguenots at the Berlin Deutsche Oper. He made his first appearance at the N.Y.C. Opera as the Duke of Mantua in 1988. In 1990 he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Gounod’s Faust and also sang for the first time at Milan’s La Scala as Pinkerton. In the 1991-92 season he made his debut at London’s Covent Garden as Raoul. He returned to the Metropolitan Opera in 1994 as Rodolfo.
