Malgoire, Jean-Claude

Malgoire, Jean-Claude, French oboist, conductor, and musicologist; b. Avignon, Nov. 25, 1940. He studied from 1957 to 1960 at the Paris Cons., where he won 1st prizes in the categories of oboe and chamber music; in 1968 he won the International Prize of Geneva for his performances as an oboist. In 1974 he founded La Grande Écurie et La Chambre du Roy, with the avowed purpose of presenting early French music in historically authentic instrumentation; he toured with this ensemble in Europe, South America, Australia, and the U.S. From 1981 he was general director of the Atelier Lyrique in Tourcoing. He also appeared as a guest conductor, leading performances of rarely heard operas in various European music centers.
