Plasson, Michel , French conductor; b. Paris, Oct. 2, 1933. He received training in piano from Lazare-Lévy, and then studied percussion at the Paris Cons., where he took the premier prix. In 1962 he won 1st prize in the Besançon conducting competiton, and then studied conducting in the U.S. with Leinsdorf, Monteux, and Stokowski. From 1966 to 1968 he was music director of the Théâtre de Metz. In 1968 he became conductor of the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, where he served as its music and general director from 1973 to 1982. In 1974 he became music director of the Orchestre du Capitole in Toulouse, which became the Orchestre National du Capitole in 1980. He took the orch. on various tours of Europe and North America. As a guest conductor, he appeared with many of the major orchs. and opera houses of the world. In 1987 he became principal guest conductor of the Tonhalle Orch. in Zürich. In 1994 he became music director of the Dresden Phil.
