Robson, Christopher , Scottish countertenor; b. Falkirk, Dec. 9, 1953. He attended the Cambridge Coll. of Arts and Technology (1970–72) and the Trinity Coll. of Music in London (1972–73), and also received vocal instruction from Paul Esswood and Helga Moth. He was a member of various groups, among them the London Oratory Choir (1974–80), the Monteverdi Choir (1974–84), the Westminster Cathedral Choir (1980–85), the King’s Consort (1981–86), and the New London Consort (from 1986). In 1976 he made his formal debut in a concert performance of Handel’s Samson in London, and in 1979 his stage debut as Argones in Handel’s Sosarme in Birmingham. He made his first appearance at London’s Covent Garden as Athamas in Handel’s Semele in 1988. During the 1992–93 season, he sang Tolomeo in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with the Scottish Opera in Glascow. In the 1993–94 season, he appeared as Arsamenes in Handel’s Xerxes at the English National Opera in London, which role he reprised during the 1995–96 season at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. He was engaged as Prince Orlovsky at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in the 1997–98 season.
