Tauriello, Antonio
Tauriello, Antonio, Argentine composer and conductor; b. Buenos Aires, March 20, 1931. He studied piano with Paul Spivak and Walter Gieseking, and composition with Alberto Ginastera. While still a youth, he was engaged to conduct opera and ballet at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He often appeared in the U.S. as an opera rehearsal coach, working at the Lyric Opera in Chicago, the Opera Soc. in Washington, D.C., and the N.Y.C. Opera in the 1960s. In the 1970s he led Verdi opera festivals in San Diego. His early works, several of which were suppressed, were in a neoclassical mold. His works composed after 1962 embrace the foundations of the international avant- garde.
