Neuroleptic

Neuroleptic drugs are medications used to treat psychoses such as schizophrenia. Neuroleptics are also called antipsychotics. This group of drugs includes chlorpromazine (Thorazine), haloperidol (Haldol), clozapine (Clozaril), lithium (Lithonate), and thioridazine (Mellaril). Some of the newer drugs include risperidone (Risperdal), quetiapine (Seroquel), and olanzapine (Zyprexa). Some neuroleptics have other medical uses, such as the treatment of nausea, vomiting, and movement disorders (including Huntington's disease and Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome).
