Known as “The Jonestown Massacre,” this extraordinary moment in history shocked the world. Like most cult leaders, Jim Jones managed to convince his people that he was the authority on everything. What started in Indiana as a religious sect designed to preach against racism and promote Christianity turned into a twisted version of totalitarian socialism. After taking the heat in multiple cities in the US, Jones moved his community of people to South America. It wasn’t long before the bodies of 900+ plus followers were found dead after drinking a mixture of cyanide and potassium provided by their leader.
