14. A woman provides Photo 51 to Watson and Crick
Rosalind Franklin is involved in more than one extraordinary moment in history. Going against what her father said, and the norm of the times, Rosalind went to college. She received a doctorate in Chemistry and led a research team during a time in history when women weren’t allowed to eat in the college cafeteria. After years of hard work, she finally had an xray image of DNA. Promptly after she revealed this to her colleague, Maurice Wilson, Photo 51 was shown to Watson and Crick. Her work was barely mentioned when the two men won a Nobel prize for determining the structure of DNA based on her work.
