The Meuse-Argonne campaign was undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary moments in history. Some historians say that it was this campaign and battle that proved America could play a role on the world stage. Few of us learned about this campaign in history class, let alone remember the details of the battle. This was the kick-off to what was known as the “American Century.” Nearly 27,000 American lives were claimed on that day but it remains a reminder to leaders that hard fought wars do not always mean peace. The battle the men are marching away from was the first demonstration of America’s power to secure their own interests.
